How to Reconcile Accounts Receivables to the General Ledger

AGONA recently assisted our client in resolving data integrity issues prior to their periodic audit. They reported that their Accounts Receivable (A/R) did not balance to the General Ledger (G/L) with a huge variance. They had worked with other consultants without any success. Within a few minutes of AGONA consultant analyzing the out of balance issue, we recognized that the wrong report was used to compare the A/R to G/L balances.

What you should know about balancing AR to the General Ledger!

When reconciling the A/R to the G/L keep the following in mind:

· Only two standard JDE A/R reports have the "as-of" date capabilities. The R03B4201A and R03B4201B provide a snapshot of a prior date reporting.

· Ensure that the data selection for the A/R report includes only posted transactions. That is GL posted equal to "D"

· Reconcile to the account balance [F0902] not the GL detail [F0911]. The F0902 is used for financial reporting and will accurately reflect the A/R trade amount.

Complex Sales Tax Rules - JDE Capable

A new tax legislation in Colorado requires that certain new items, such as plastic lids and coffee filters, sold by distribution centers would become taxable effective March 2010. Companies were given a short notice to be in compliance with this new Colorado tax legislation. Our Denver based client was faced with the decision of purchasing the Vertex tax software program per recommendations to be able to set up the complex tax structure.

AGONA reviewed the issue and made recommendations. We helped with a strategy to set up and report on the sales taxes using the standard JDE system without any modification of custom development. Our approach was to look at using the system "as is" and to determine if the functionalities would work. With the help of a white paper on the Oracle website on setting up tax groups we were able to accomplish the tax requirements without any custom programming or development.

The recognized savings by the customer were enormous and the implementation was successfully completed in a matter of days. The standard tax reporting reports were used to capture the sales taxes collected and reported correctly.
